Instagram Reels

Reels is a built-in feature provided by Instagram which lets the users create 15-second video clips. The video clips set to music, or original audio/ dialogues by the users.

Reels can be shared on Stories and appear in the explore section like any other photo, video, or IGTV video.

Also, in the user’s profile, there is a separate section of reels (like of photos/videos, IGTV videos), in which all the reels of the user will be visible.

Reels is the clone of TikTok and Instagram is capitalizing it through its huge consumer base all across the world.

After the TikTok’s ban in India, Reels was launched in India on 11 July 2020. Now, as the tension is rising on TikTok in the US market, Instagram made available its Reels globally over 50 countries on 5 August 2020.

But Reels was first launched in Brazil in November 2019. In Brazil, Reels is known as Cenas.

According to Instagram’s officials, Reels was launched in Brazil, because It is one of the countries where Instagram is hugely popular, good creator base and heavy musical culture.

Another important reason for Brazil is Instagram wanted to launch Reels in the countries where the TikTok wasn’t so popular back then.

They launched a shorter video format in the new markets. After the analysis in the new market, Reels will expand to the market where TikTok is popular .i.e India.

Earlier also, Instagram applied the same strategy with its story feature. Snapchat has created the concept of 24hrs stories.

Instagram introduced the story feature in their platform inspired by Snapchat in the international markets where Snapchat was not so popular.
